As I sit here in my sunroom looking out on this beautiful sunny spring day, I am reflecting upon March 2020 and what a month it has been for our world, our country, our state and our hometown of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
One short month ago, I was visiting my son, his wife, their toddler daughter and newborn twin girls in Georgia. I made a medicine run to Sam’s and was blown away by the number of people there. Lines were long and every cart seemed to be filled with toilet paper and paper towels. I asked a gentleman in line behind me if this was typical of a Sunday afternoon. He shook his head and said that it seemed a bit busier than usual. I think that is the last normal day I can remember. As I drove home a few days later, it was clear how quickly things were changing. Every shelf was stripped of hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, toilet paper and paper towels. The small hand sanitizer in my car became my constant companion.
Jonesboro Select Real Estate continued to show and list homes, put homes under contract and close sales. The way those things were done changed substantially. Home searching was no longer a leisure activity. Those searching were doing so out of need and a definite closing date was heavy on their minds. Our inventory of listed properties was low. While we were already in a tight market, COVID-19 had made many think seriously about allowing strangers in their homes. We are fortunate at Jonesboro Select Real Estate to offer remote document signing to all of our clients, so that everyone is practicing appropriate social distancing but business continues to get done. Our digital systems allowed us to transition to physical office to remote office seamlessly. Our title companies were doing a phenomenal job of bringing as few people to the closing table as necessary and still making the dream of homeownership come true.
With our minds and ears turned toward COVID-19, March 28, 2020, brought another twist to our spring, and it was an ugly one. As many of us watched live coverage on our local television station, an EF3 tornado reigned down on our hometown. Businesses were destroyed, jobs were lost in the blink of an eye and those that had barely been holding on through COVID-19 had another problem – their homes were severely damaged or simply uninhabitable.
Jonesboro is a resilient town. Our citizens have come out in full force to help their neighbors. Cleaning up debris, feeding volunteers and those displaced and networking to help find those suddenly homeless families a place to shelter are just some of the ways we are pulling together.
So, as we begin a new month of social distancing, how can you continue to live the American dream of homeownership and how can we best help you?
If now is the time for you to move around the corner or perhaps transfer to a new location, call any of our agents and let us walk through the process with you. Let us share with you the market data so that we can best price your home to insure the fewest showings and fastest closing. Walking through your home and experiencing it, is the very best way for us to truly calculate a realistic sales price. To do that, we will practice social distancing as well as wearing masks and gloves and touching as few surfaces as necessary.
If you are looking to purchase, either through relocation, a need for a different size home or sadly because you find your current home uninhabitable, let’s start online. www.JonesboroSelect.com is the place to search for your new home based on a number of options. You can search by school district, price, area, and amenities. By sharing your thoughts with us, we can determine what your needs really are and the style you desire. When the right home comes onto the market, we can be on the front line so that you have every opportunity to call it home. We can collect data on comparable homes that have sold so that you know what a sensible sales price is before you every walk through the door of a property. The next step is to physically visit the homes you have interest in. We also view properties in the same responsible social distancing manner as when we are listing a home. We ask our clients to join us in wearing masks and gloves.
Your Jonesboro Select Real Estate will always put your safety first and we will guide you through these unique times to accomplish buying or selling. Our goal is simply to make your experience excellent.
We will get through all of the craziness that March 2020 has begun. We will do it together, neighbor helping neighbor in our hometown. #JONESBOROSTRONG
